Appeals court rules Catholic school can fire counselor over her same-sex marriage

I'm not sure how I feel about that. I see it as a slippary slope when you start letting groups fire people for their personal lives.

Fire you because you smoke? Fire you because you got too many speeding tickets? Fire you because you are a Braves fan?

Where does it stop?

A diocese or archdiocese runs Catholic schools. The schools are religious, with religious education built into them. They don't receive taxpayer funds as they are private schools. I see no problem firing teachers who live a lifestyle against the school's religious faith. It's no different than a church firing a pastor who is discovered to be a homosexual or having extramarital affairs.

Churches have held employees to the doctrine of the bible and fired pastors and other staff for affairs outside their marriage, drinking, and other behavior that in corporate America they would have received not even a second thought.

Especially if it is in a counseling capacity, if you work for a church, it should be expected that you live a life that has more boundaries than most.
