What is it with recalls these days? Seems like all the manufacturers are plagued with them.

My son-in-law bought a GMC Sierra 1500, Black Widow edition. Very high-end truck with the 6.2.
Just under 12,000 miles, and on the way home last week the engine starts tapping like crazy, error messages coming up and it goes into limp mode.
Dealer called him this morning; cam shaft improperly aligned, needs an entire engine replacement. Thankfully, under warranty, but there's no excuse for this.

Anybody but Toyota would try to get out of it by just extending the engine warranty to 100K miles or something and hoping most of them lasted past that mark.
True, gotta hand it to them. They want to protect their reputation for reliability.
