You've seen HGTV....It's time for a little DHTV (Dallas Hwy TV). I took a couple pics of my second favorite room in the house, after the man cave of course. The garage is the last room to re-finish and my plan is to get a majority of it done this summer. Every other room has been up-graded at least twice in the 15 years we've been there, so it's time. Unfortunately I can't do it all in one fail swoop, but I think it will be worth it in the end 8) I've taken some "before" pictures to keep track. Since we have a drive under garage, everything is still exposed:
The first step is to have those paper thin garage doors snatched out and replaced with new insulated doors and belt driven openers. The living room is directly above the garage and it currently sounds like a train running underneath the house when you're sitting up there and someone opens the door. I believe the DC motors in the belt driven openers will be much more quiet.
We will paint the new garage doors to match the house color. The one in the photo is busted. The arm of the opener snatched SLAP OFF a few months ago.
The Garage Door Dude was out to the house Friday night and the new doors and openers should be installed in approximately 2 weeks.
My plan is for the garage to be the VERY FIRST Garage with the Dallas Hwy theme. I'll explain more later.
Step #2 in a couple of months will be to hang a suspended ceiling to cover the ugly insulation and duct work.
Step #3 will be to add insulation on the exterior walls and finish them out with exterior siding instead of drywall.
Step #4 will be to add a new door between the garage doors.
Step #5 will be to clean and stain the concrete floor and add decorative snap-together garage tiles where we park.
Step #6 will be to paint the walls and add certain decorative elements to go along with the Dallas Hwy theme.
Step #7 will hopefully be the addition of cabinets to match.
