The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco filed for bankruptcy on Monday, saying a Chapter 11 filing will facilitate a settlement of about 500 lawsuits accusing the church of enabling childhood sexual abuse by priests.

The filing in U.S. bankruptcy court in San Francisco will put the lawsuits on hold and buy time for settlement talks, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said in a statement.

This is troubling. Y'all know I'm not a Catholic basher, but I think they need to take a long look at the system that drives priests to have these urges.

So, I was raised in a community in Ohio that was something like 90% Catholic.

The owner of our local McDonalds went to McDonald's founder and said:

"I have created a fish sandwich and it's called Filet O'Fish. It sells like crazy on Friday and does pretty well the rest of the week too."

That's all I know about Catholicism.

Well, that and it seems that their priests have a thing for alter boys.....

The requirement for Priests to remain unmarried really needs to be removed. I've just looked as the section of 1st Corinthians they use to justify the requirement and I read it as it should be an individual decision, not a requirement to be leader.

They also take a vow of poverty. The Catholic church got filthy rich on that because for centuries the oldest living son inherited everything from his father. If the oldest was a priest, he had to give what he inherited to the church.

Personally, I think it conflicts with the natural urges God gives us. And that means the sexual desires are manifesting elsewhere.
