Car Dealerships!

Mrs. Reacher is a penny pincher and is very good at it. The ONLY reason she takes her car to an un-named dealership that rhymes with Ed Voyles, is for scheduled maintenance. She keeps good records of her maintenance visits for when we get ready to trade/sell her vehicle.

Both of us know these dealership's business is to make a lot of money off of you and they WILL if you don't watch them like a hawk. In recent years she has had a decent rapport with them, but she called me today ALL bent out of shape.

She took it in for a 120,000 mile service and knew it would be expensive. She was actually pleased they had washed her car when she picked it up.....that is until she was looking over the detailed receipt while sitting in Whitlock Ave traffic. They charged $18.00 for the car wash she NEVER asked for. :Stick

I know it was just $18.00, but that's a load of crap! :rant Having a vehicle maintenanced is expensive enough. The car wash SHE DIDN'T ASK FOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE!

I did an interview with a male applicant a few years ago. He had been a service manager at large car dealerships for a majority of his adult life. During the interview I asked him why he wanted to leave that business. He said he was tired of it. I asked him straight out if it wasn't true that dealerships try to convince customers to have repairs that are not needed and "find" repairs that need no repair. He hung his head and admitted that was one of the reasons he wanted out of the business.

As for me, I DO NOT go to dealerships. I don't trust them.

:rant Please say she did not pay for the wash.

She paid the bill and left. She didin't see the detail of the bill until she was sitting in traffic for an hour. Since the dealership is just a mile from her work, I have a feeling she'll be eating lunch on them tomorrow. How cheap is that?

On the other side of the coin, Heritage VW on Thornton Road always washes Daughter Reacher's Beetle when she has it worked on. We have a limited warranty on it there.

And BTW, there is NO CHARGE

That probably would have been the best time for me to see it. I hate people/places that do crap like that. Let us know the outcome tomorrow.

I've had a couple of techs who previously worked for a certain large refrigeration contractor in Atlanta. They both told me they left because of ethics; said they had to call in after each repair so the service manager could tell them what parts they installed and how much to charge for them. Massive fraud!

I guess that's why they make huge profits and I just pay the bills.

...and you can sleep at night!

Nalley does all of the service on my car. Oil changes come with a free wash and vacuum. And the cost of an oil change is the same as what I would pay elsewhere (and only $5 more than if hubby does it himself). And, more importantly, they have a little Starbucks cafe in the Service Dept. - free Starbucks while you wait.

When I can pay the bills, anyway

I have not had this problem with my Ford dealer...which, if you come to Texas, is Gene Messer Ford in Amarillo. They've always done what I came in and asked for, and have never recommended service that was not needed or claimed something was wrong. Last time they said I should think about getting my tires rotated next time I come in for an oil change...looked in the car's manual, and that would be right about the time Ford says to do it. Looks honest to me.

I'm always very careful to look over my bill if I have to pay - I haven't had to pay for a couple oil changes. One, I had a coupon from Ford, and the other one they told me it'd be 45 minutes, and I was there for 3 1/2 hours. I didn't complain, but the service manager told the cashier that it was comped because I had waited so long.

They obviously want to keep my business, IMO.

I've had similar positive experiences with Team Ford of Marietta. Since Voyles and Nalley deal mainly in Asian cars, I don't waste my time going to any of their numerous locations.

It's folks like this who give them all a bad name. And I hate that!!! Customers LOVE my husband for his honesty, but dealers, not so much. He refuses to play their games. His theory is that repeat business is more important than soaking one customer.

:thumbsup

He took great care of my car before I headed to Mom & Granny, in Alabama, earlier this year. I appreciated him, and knowing he was honest, from the moment I walked in there til they were finished.
