Mrs. Reacher is a penny pincher and is very good at it. The ONLY reason she takes her car to an un-named dealership that rhymes with Ed Voyles, is for scheduled maintenance. She keeps good records of her maintenance visits for when we get ready to trade/sell her vehicle.
Both of us know these dealership's business is to make a lot of money off of you and they WILL if you don't watch them like a hawk. In recent years she has had a decent rapport with them, but she called me today ALL bent out of shape.
She took it in for a 120,000 mile service and knew it would be expensive. She was actually pleased they had washed her car when she picked it up.....that is until she was looking over the detailed receipt while sitting in Whitlock Ave traffic. They charged $18.00 for the car wash she NEVER asked for. :Stick
I know it was just $18.00, but that's a load of crap! :rant Having a vehicle maintenanced is expensive enough. The car wash SHE DIDN'T ASK FOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE!
I did an interview with a male applicant a few years ago. He had been a service manager at large car dealerships for a majority of his adult life. During the interview I asked him why he wanted to leave that business. He said he was tired of it. I asked him straight out if it wasn't true that dealerships try to convince customers to have repairs that are not needed and "find" repairs that need no repair. He hung his head and admitted that was one of the reasons he wanted out of the business.
As for me, I DO NOT go to dealerships. I don't trust them.
