Sigh. Automotive Execs trying to suck up to the Biden admin are finding it was a little more expensive than they hoped. The stockholders will end up being screwed.

Toyota will be the big winner.

A buddy of mine who is a big EV buff was telling me awhile back that Toyota had let the others pass them by and it was gonna put them out of business. I disagreed; told him they were smart to wait and see what would happen. Now Toyota is laughing all the way to the bank.

I wonder how long until Ford and GM is begging for bailout money again?
 
I'm just spitballin' here, but if they can lop $13,000 off the top, they were way over priced for an introductory vehicle to begin with. What can you really do with a Mach-E, race it?? After the third pass it will have slowed down so much, that they'll be lining up to take your money!! No, the only thing you can do is take them to the car shows and save your battery for the trip home.
 
Reading this, it sounds like they had plans to develop an EV van, but just axed it. Probably a smart move, they just don't have the range or practicality for service vans, which is probably their primary application.

As the article states, the GM vans are ancient in design, but they still drive great and are very reliable. I used mostly GM vans in my business, was not uncommon to get 300-400 thousand out of them with few problems. They were old in design, but GM had worked most of the bugs out.

What they should do is to refresh the design, and drop in their excellent 3 liter Duramax inline 6 diesel. Great engine; performs almost as well as the gas burners, but with considerably better fuel economy. And very torquey.

Hate that, I have a few like that but thankfully I’m beginning to at least see a glimmer of light.

I'm liking this truck. Not enough to run out and get one since mine is paid off, but if it got totaled out, I'd go have a look.

I wonder if they are going to all the charging engine to be used to run the house like some of the other makes allow the battery to be used.
