...Kenneth Reda of Acworth, the former Cobb police sergeant convicted in connection with the drowning death of a fellow officer, is being released from prison today after serving 18 months of his sentence, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

On Jan. 28, 2011, Reda was sentenced to four years in prison and nine years on probation for lying to the law enforcement, second-degree homicide by vessel, and violation of office by a public officer in the death of his best friend Brent Stephens on Lake Allatoona.

Authorities believe Reda’s boat struck a pylon on April 22, 2010, when he, Stephens and Reda's mistress Shelley Powell were returning home from dinner at a lakeside restaurant...

He walked his kids into school this morning.

Brent didn't get to do the same.

(And before anyone gets upset ... I know Reda's kids didn't do anything wrong but you know what, neither did Brent's.)

I am with you, totally. Many were shocked this morning when he walked in.

I'm assuming you know people.

As to the events, I'm somewhat speechless.

Is Reda still married? Just a curious question. I was appalled at this when it happened, and I still am. Talk about depraved indifference and worse. :heavysigh:

It is a small town.
My BFF works at that school and knows them, while my other BFF works at the school right here and knows the other family. And my other BFF is friends with the widow so I wound up knowing all the people and then hearing and seeing things. :(

The release is not unusual for a person without a previous record. He'll be on probation for the remainder of the sentence. If he farts too loud, they'll violate him.

I know he's ex-police, but any run-of-the-mill convict with a similar lack of criminal history and good institutional behavior would be walking the streets just like this guy. I didn't know him. Our combined agencies total over 1,600 in number, so I don't have a dog in the fight.
