I\'m so much cooler online!

I'm Floored

Lover of BS!
On different forums, I've often seen threads where others may perceive (or misunderstand) certain posts. Then I read the poster defend themselves by saying, "I'm not at all what you think I am" or "If you met me in person you'd like me".

I've often defended others the same way. But then I think, if that's your true character, why are you acting differently online? Certainly, words will be misinterpreted, or even manipulated by others.

I just can't say or act differently when I'm anonymous or not.

What say you?

:whistle

RNG talk about this all the time. It seems that people's online personas are usually exactly like their real life self, or the polar opposite. I know examples of both on this forum.

Me, I am pretty much the same in real life as I am online. Except uglier... :p

I think a lot is misinterpreted online. No facial expressions, hand movement, or tone of what is being said can be conveyed (other than a few smileys :) ) so people might think others are being offensive when really they are just being factual.
I don't think it is intentionally a misrepresentation of their character/personality. They just have a hard time with how the written word is coming across to others. At least in my opinion. :dunno (Some are just jerks. :)) )

Who is opposite? :)) I think most I have met here are the same IRL.

BBG is (well until you get to know him) At first he is very quiet and reserved lol

Actually, I'm a lot nicer and more social online. In general, if I don't know you there is a good chance that I won't speak to you in person. My hubby and the princess are the social butterflies in the family and I'm just along for the ride, at least until I get to know you....
