I can only imagine.

I have thought about this many times. If I was in a situation where I needed to pull the trigger, could I? And if I did, I think I would hate myself for it, no matter how justified I was.
 
But it speaks to the point that a criminal tried to take his life.

He shut it down, and was able to go back home alive... but the investigators second guessed that he should not have shot.

We just lost a second police officer who was on life support. Wonder if he had shot to protect himself if he would have lost his profession... instead, he has lost his life.

Same for me, but we also have the common sense to know when we "don't have to." Even under pressure or stress I'm confident I'd know whether or not the potential taking of someone's life was "justified" or whether there were other options available. IMHO it would only be if my life or that of others near me were in question. I never want to be in that situation, your life changes as soon as the trigger is pulled.
