What do you think? Seriously? Do you think the police actually police their own, or do you think they cover up miconduct? Serious question...

Serious responses requested. No backlash...

My guess would be that fellow LEO's often look the other way for minor stuff (professional courtesy), but usually draw the line when something really wrong is done by one of them.

Do I get a cookie if I'm right? :p

I think it's a little of both. A speeding police officer, gets ignored, and corrupt one involved in felony level crimes gets taken down.

Not going to touch that one!

I think it is both and I think the level of policing has a lot to do with the area/department/agency. There are few things that piss me off more than a dirty cop and I believe the dirty cops do not deserve equal punishment, they deserve stronger punishment. I know guys that write other cops tickets even for minor stuff ... but I also know that there are cops out there that would rather die than do anything to a "brother in blue." In that line of work there does have to be a higher than normal level of trust, etc. but there is no excuse for not turning in dirty cops. They make the job harder for the good guys.

Thanks all. At times I'm curious what people think. I don't do that particular duty any longer, but I used to receive very interesting comments from people who complained about our employees. Some of them had similar responses that I've seen here, but many were WAY OUT there on the "conspiracy" side of the issue.
