Kemp to speak at 4:00 PM about Georgia Reopening plans

Kinda surprised he opened up as much as he did. Gyms, salons, etc can open Friday. Lawd help the salons as the women run on them. LOL

Restaurant dine in can resume Monday so long as they follow social distancing guidelines.

And most surprisingly, he's allowing church services to resume so long as they follow social distancing guidelines. This one bothers me a bit, I hope people don't get stupid with this. Too many old and sick people at church that I worry about.

But all in all, better than I expected. I think that if people will act responsibly, we'll be OK.

Yeah, I'm surprised too. I kinda figured the 'shelter at home' may get extended beyond April 30 given that Georgia hasn't been one of the states listed (from what I've seen) as being ready for Trump's 'phase 1' opening process.

I applaud him for taking the first steps to re-open. I think many, including those in high risk categories, will continue to shelter in place and that’s perfectly understandable. I think of my father who turns 80 next year, he hasn’t left the house in a month and not allowIng visitors. He will continue to shelter in as long as he fears getting sick regardless of whether things are re-opened.

Mayor of Atlanta forming a commission to study Atlanta reopening plan

The mayor said the council must have their framework presented to her by May 15.

Um...isn't she kinda late to the party? Seems to me this should have already been in progress. Question is if she doesn't lift her order for the city of Atlanta to shelter at home and businesses remain closed, whose order wins? Hers or Kemp's?

Yeah, well, go figure. Idiots are idiots

My office is in the city of Atlanta and there is no way the powers that be will defy her order if it remains in place. Granted, I can still work from home but my cat is starting to look at me funny and I'm getting kinda worried she may attack while I sleep.

I'm not comfortable with this at all and that's because there are way too many stupid people out there that think because they have no symptoms, they can't possibly have the virus. There are far too many people in my opinion who are indeed infected with the virus, show no symptoms and go out and contaminate others. This virus is far from over and quite frankly Kemp is a dumbass. There has not been near enough testing in Georgia and there has not been a decline in positive case for two weeks yet. He's rolling the dice.

I believe it was Jman who said I had no skin in the game. That's BS because everyone has skin in this game - their lives.

Ignore my question above. I found this about Kemp's order:

Kemp's order overrides any attempt to impose stricter local decisions, but some local officials including Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said the governor is moving too quickly.

“It appears the governor's order supersedes anything I can do as mayor, but I still have my voice and what I will continue to do is ask Atlantans to please stay at home," Bottoms told ABC News.

Kemp made it clear that local gov cannot add to or subtract from his orders.

I am very comfortable with it.

It's time to begin returning to normal.

I have not been particularly impressed with Kemp prior to today, But today, he showed that he had a pair and I agree with his decision. Now, the burden of responsibility falls to the individual, which is the conservative way.

Comfortable because the dollar is more valuable than life?
No, comfortable because the disease is less than we thought it was, and the cure was worse than than the disease.

It's time to start returning to normal. The American people are rightfully tired of giving up their constitutional freedoms. We are reclaiming our rights.

What constitutional freedoms have any of us given up?

Lots, in cooperation of the shelter in place, the order for churches not to assemble, businesses closing, etc. OK, I am fine with it to a point, but the threat is less than we thought, so time to get back to normal.

There is no doubt social distancing/shelter in place helped slow the spread of COVID. These measures are common sense and would have the same effect on any contagious virus. I also think the entire shut down the world policies went overboard at the expense of the taxpayer/economy and caused undue mental stress on millions. The problem with opening these gathering places is that a whole lot of people were ignorant and self centered before COVID and that has not changed. Maybe some people have seen the light but many others have not. It is going to be up to each establishment to police the distancing policies not the government. If a business does not comply I would not be a customer. If you believe in capitalism the market should weed out these non conformist on the business end over time. As for violation of rights it absolutely happened in a matter of weeks. Right to assemble, freedom to pursue life, liberty and happiness, millions of private businesses forced to shut down, commandeering of businesses to produce goods for the government, forced home lock down of millions, freedom of religion (to a small degree if your religion absolutely requires gathering or contact with an individual),etc. I agree some of these measures have been used before to some extent but usually in times of war. My biggest fear goes back to my previous statement, a lot of people are ignorant and self centered. JMO.

That right there is why we will see a second wave that is much worse than what we have seen already.
