Kemp to speak at 4:00 PM about Georgia Reopening plans

I have mixed feelings about this but with the failure of the Federal Congress to get a support bill through that actually helped small business, something has to be done. Note it's not supposed to be business as usual and they are supposed to meet social distancing rules during operations. I would hope that the small business owner doesn't want to get it themselves (or their employees) and will be more strict on modifying their business to meet the requirements. That will be key. My concern is the idiots that will crowd around restaurants trying to get in. I'm hoping that most will go with a "sign in at the door and go back to the car and we'll text you when a table is available" plan.

Also, shelter in place for those 65+ and vulnerable is extended to May 15 to keep them out of this mess. At least he had the sense to keep the live performance venues and bars/clubs closed. I just hope they included the bars inside of local restaurants like Taco Mac being closed and you have to use tables.

This virus could flare back up , with the next wave even deadlier than before... History has a way of repeating itself and folks need to take this seriously. I agree the folks most vulnerable (seniors and those with pre-existing medical issues) need to stay at home at least until Memorial Day. Younger, healthy folks can continue to social distance themselves and try to get back to work.

Ok, time to stay off of Facebook for a while. The "We are smarter than the majority of the world" crowd are complaining all over the place that "people' are too stupid to do the smart thing without the government telling them what to do. Pride goes before the fall.

My wife's cousin still swears she's conservative, but goes with the liberal position 90% of the time. <sigh>

We had a Zoom meeting tonight with the parents and adult students from our martial arts gym to discuss the possibility of re-opening and also to go over the drastic changes which will be in effect upon re-opening. The overall consensus is that it’s too early to open and that we would have another meeting in two weeks to re-evaluate. I have the upmost respect for the head instructor who just isn’t willing to risk the well-being of his students and gym family members. He stated that regardless of what Trump or Kemp approves that his gym family will have to make the decision of when they feel it’s safe to return. We currently hold virtual training classes 3 times per week and beginning next week the classes will be broken down into smaller groups, so far those classes are going “virtually” very well (you saw what I did there). Yes, I was one of the few who supported opening soon but I also don’t have a kid at risk. This is how the decision should be handled at every small business. It was a very positive meeting and it showed just how much the owner appreciates his customers. It was apparent how much thought and time he had put into managing his business through this crisis. He’s even developing a non-martial arts physical fitness virtual class and offering it free of charge to those who are interested.

I suspect this will be the case for many a small business. They want to reopen, but do it safely. Kemp's order gives them the option to start preparing for re-opening, it doesn't mean they have to, nor does it mean people have to go there. (but they will, so crowd control measures will be a must).

That's exactly what we discussed upon re-opening. Instead of one large class beginning on the hour with everyone entering and signing-in at the same time, classes will start staggered every 15 minutes and limited to 10 per class and be held in 4 separate areas with separate instructors so each small group has no contact with the others, individual check-in with people staggered 10ft apart, no sparring, no contact, no shaking hands during greeting and dismissal, gym doors will remain open, training in the outdoor dojo 4 vacant lot when weather permits, separate exit door to keep traffic flowing in one direction. Anyone not feeling well is asked to not attend and those who do attend are subject to random temperature checks. Plus several more changes pertaining to the p/u and drop-off of young kids.

It's amazing to see just how much this crisis has affected so many small businesses, but it's more amazing to see how small business are responding. It's the "American Way" in action.

Merica Baby!!!
