Lowering the Standards for HOPE...

I'm here to spin the moral compass.
This was posted by Gov. Deal on FB:

Gov. Deal, along with Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, House Speaker David Ralston and state Rep. Stacey Evans, today announced a proposal that will expand access to tech schools by lowering the required GPA for the HOPE Grant back to its original level of 2.0. “I believe this additional benefit will help Georgia families trying to get ahead and will boost the state’s ability to attract and fill high-skilled jobs,” said Deal. “We need more Georgians with college or technical school degrees in order to attract the jobs of tomorrow to our state.”

Wrong,wrong,wrong,wrong.

I know - we could save so much more money if we would just hand out the degrees for free. Heaven forbid we encourage kids to do well in college...

:faint Great. Son, right now, has kids in his class that daily he asks how they could even be there? :huh

Ugh. While I do like the idea of adding technical schools as an option, it should NOT be with a 2.0 GPA. :faint

THANK YOU. And what does that say about what they think of tech students? Oh, you don't have a brain, so here you go do this. Stupe. Not every kid should go to college...some are better at trades. One is not better than the other - they're just different.

Not every kid should go to college, but if they do, they should have to do better than a 2.0 to receive assistance...

So we're continually being told that this program is in danger yet here they are discussing ways to give even more money away to even less qualified people? Yep, that makes sense. :wut

The real motive...if they're enrolled in school then they're not counted as unemployed. I've always been a firm believer that the college route is not meant for everyone and tech school is a viable option for many, but if you go to either then either make good grades and show you belong or pay for the ride yourself.
