Meet the new President...same as the old President...

I think that was expected for Trump's first year. He was basically working off the previous budget and change takes time.

However...Trump owns this year, so he will be responsible for whatever happens. Unfortunately, and I'm not making excuses for anyone, the possibility of making real spending cuts quickly is not good. The sheer numbers of people who work for the federal government or for a government contractor make up a significant percentage of employment, and cutting that too fast could throw us back into recession. Being that we are at the "full employment" figure now, and there is a need for skilled labor in private industry; we need to start trying to move some of the government and government dependent employees to private sector jobs. And as I've mentioned many times; we must start to move people out of the entitlement programs and into self-sufficiency. But all this will take time, and the Democrats will fight it tooth and nail because it affects a good chunk of their voting base.

Agreed but, unless I've missed it, I don't think Trump has been threatening to veto the upcoming spending bill that is being discussed right now.

Could be, I've been so busy I am behind in my news.

None of them are reigning in spending like I would prefer. None of them!

Trump is on schedule to INCREASE the rate of debt accumulation above Obama's last year. He has proposed numerous spending increases, most notably defense, drug intradiction, law enforcement, and infrastructure. He has proposed only modest cuts in executive departments to pay for these. He also signed a tax bill that will reduce revenues by trillions without even proposing any offsets. He is not concerned about the debt, and has said as much.

While the president doesn't directly control spending, he sets the tone, and that tone is business as usual. As Rand Paul said this morning while holding a two foot tall stack of papers that is the omnibus spending bill, "a pox on both houses and both parties". As I say, same sh** different a**hole.

I'm seeing a bunch of die hard Trump supporters jumping ship on Facebook over him signing the spending bill. I tried to tell people all along that the man was not a conservative.
