Really, though as it gets closer, keep checking to see what they have available. Sometimes you can get a bump up for as little as $100.00. Depends on what sells and this might actually be a good time to get that. They might have a few cancellations.

Do check though. Last time we got a room with a balcony and bumped up to a suite for $300.00. It was a gamble but paid off. Saved us a ton that we put towards excursions.

True story. We were bumped on our last cruise for no charge. It was awesomeness.

I believe you. It has happened to us too, but I figured those odds were less than the checking and paying the small fee. :))
All this cruise talk, sort of makes me want to go on one. (not Carnival)

note to GD: Not because I am worried about Carnival safety. You will be fine. I just do not like that line for us. :)
