Ok, who is going to save my backside?

I need a postage meter that hasn't had the date adjusted yet. I need something to be post marked 3/01 and that obviously isn't going to happen the "normal" way.

*Edited to clarify actual intent.

All the meters I know of will only do postage. To get the post mark, it has to go thru the post office.

I hate to say this, but I'm thinkin' that changing the date on a meter might be a federal offense (if you can even do it...I can't remember how ours used to work). Seems like I remember reading that at a job once when we had a postage meter. However, I could be wrong...I've been wrong before. That one time when I thought I was wrong, but I wasn't. :D

On a lot of them the ate doesn't change until you manually do it so if I can catch somebody before they change it, no worries. :D

And though it isn't technically an official postmark, it does end up being the only date stamp on the postage of the package so it will meet my needs.

I have a crayon that I can write 3/1 on there for ya ... drop it at the post office now and see if it will be postmarked today

I'm not an attorney but what you're talking about doing is against the law and carries a maximum fine of 5 years in prison and/or a fine.

Does not. Using a postage meter with an incorrect date on it happens all of the time. People forget to change the date. We're not talking about forging something on a legal document. And the date on the postage meter is not the true official postmark date ... just the only date that does end up showing. It's also not like we're talking about falsifying anything for an insured or premium service item either. Good grief ... and I suppose people believe that you really will go to jail for putting an ad flier in or on somebody's mailbox as a matter of solicitation, too.

And to further clarify I'm hoping to get something postaged before the date is changed for the day ... not asking somebody to go in and mess with anything to intentionally set it backwards.

I'm just telling you what I researched. I didn't say you were going to go to jail, I said what you were inquiring about was intentionally changing the date on a meter to reflect a date other than the date you would mail the letter. It is a federal offense to cause a letter to be delivered with knowingly false information, ie a false postmark. Look, I'm not the police, I'm not even judging you. I'm just telling you that what you want to do is illegal. And for the record, if you were caught or reported placing advertising fliers into a mailbox or otherwise affixing them to a mailbox you could face penalty.

What I'm really trying to say is, it's probably not wise to post your intent to break the law on a public message board searchable by anyone, including law enforcement.

Then forgive me, your original post

I need a postage meter that has an adjustable date. I need something to be post marked 3/01 and that obviously isn't going to happen the "normal" way.

made me think that's what you were trying to do.

I can see that ... my manner of posting can be taken as literal and I know that causes me issues. Sorry. :(

You will definitely go to jail for pulling the tags off mattresses. Just sayin'...
