To look to Christ to meet our perceived psychological needs is to Christianize our lusts. We are asking God to give us what we want, so we can feel better about ourselves, or so we can have more happiness, not holiness, in our lives. ~ Edward T. Welch

Imma havta think about that one for a minute. I see what he's saying, BUT when we exchange our lives for Christ's life, He automatically meets all our needs. I'm prolly overthinking what he's saying. A common occurrence. :D

I looked him up...he seems reputable. Wrote a book about depression, as well as several others.

I love it! We need to seek His face, not His hand(outs).

God ALWAYS meets our needs, but our perception of what we need is often misconstrued. Scripture tells us when we follow God, He will give us the desires of our heart. I've learned over time that doesn't necessarily mean that He gives us what we want. It means He lays on our heart what our desires should be. And they will line up with His will.

I love Him so much! My life has been filled with tragedy. I've also rejoiced from the mountaintops many times. These past few years have been hard through the economic times we face, but He remains FAITHFUL!

I think it's totally acceptable to ask for His assistance when you are trying to lose weight, stop smoking, and other things like that to improve your health.

I think it's not acceptable to pray He hooks you up with a smoking hot member of the opposite sex.

This.

It made me think that through all of the struggles my family has had over the last several years and the number of times I've gone to Him to help meet the needs of my family, it was primarily for our material needs to improve our lives here, my viewpoint was selfish and centered on my family and not how my family could honor Him.

Do I still believe He meets those needs? Absolutely! He proved that just this morning.

Especially not if you're trying to give up smoking yourself. ;)

Seriously, I think one of the points about prayer, together with study of God's work, is to align our own wishes and desires with God's wishes and desires. Is this not so?
