Depends what you're using it for and how much you want to spend. Music usually only goes down into the 30 hz range, but for serious home theater, you want to get closer to 20 hz.

The Dayton subs are quite respectable for the price, but not high end.

The BIC subs are quite good for the price. I have two of the PL-300s, and they will do an honest 20 hz. Looking at about $450 for those, but they do have cheaper models which are still pretty good.

The Monolith (Monoprice) subs are pretty high end and priced less than many in that category. But, still looking at $800-$900 for a 12". They kick serious butt though!

What is your budget?
 
That's what I'm trying to decide. I don't want to go down from what I have now (three legged as this one is) so trying to see what is equivalent or better than the Infinity. Don't want to pay for name, but if there is a quality difference then it could be worth it.

Let me have a look at what's there based on what you've said.

I have an NHT (now hear this) , american made, sub woofer with an external amp - it's a thumper

For my money - Dayton Audio Subs work just fine - best bang for the buck.
