Senator Romney

He will own Utah. I agree, not a bad guy. He will be a staunch social conservative, if not a fiscal one.

If Romney is so great then why is he anti Trump. Unless he has turned around he appears to be a RINO to me. Geez. Thank you very much

Lots of smart people were anti-Trump...me included. I do like some of the stuff he's done (tax cut, cutting regulations) but I still think he's mostly out for himself. He'd sign any bill sent to him by the RINOs in Congress if he thought it would make him look good regardless of how liberal the bill is..

Well Trump was the only Republican candidate who pushed the immigration problem and wanted to drastically cut it down and that's why he got the nomination and then won the election.

He has refused a compromise which would allow chain migration and the lottery and just build the wall.

He would let the illegal "dreamers" stay for that but not cave in on the other issues. Cruz was the only other candidate l considered at least acceptable.

God Bless Trump. We disagree some here but we both agree the Dems are not for us. Thank you very much

The last spending bill was evidence of that.

The two-year spending pact will let lawmakers spend $300 billion more than current law allows.

The deal suspends a 2011 budget law championed by conservatives that set hard caps on discretionary spending and included an automatic trigger known as "sequester" cuts if Congress attempted to bust those spending caps.

The bill also included a one-time emergency influx of about $90 billion to help with ongoing recovery efforts for the hurricanes and wildfires that have hit the U.S. in recent months. All told, the bill hikes federal spending about $400 billion through September 2019.

Fiscal conservatives squawked at new spending levels. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., delayed the vote on the bipartisan measure to rail against his fellow Republicans for acquiescing to more spending than they ever did under President Barack Obama. The delays forced a partial government shutdown after midnight, to minimal impact.

"I ran for office because I was critical of President Obama's trillion-dollar deficits," Paul said on the floor. "Now we have Republicans hand-in-hand with Democrats offering us trillion-dollar deficits."

The last spending bill was evidence of that.

Trump was blackmailed into signing the Bill so we could still have a military.

The commie loving Democrats did the same thing to Reagan. What else could Trump do?

He sure didn't want to give the Dems what they wanted but otherwise the Dems would have screwed over the military. Thank you very much

So Trump was powerless and forced to sign the bloated spending bill? I'm not buying it.

Sadly... (even as it was with Reagan)...
It will probably be 'business as usual' in DC...
Unless the country can elect a HUGE number of MAGA folks this fall... and really drain the swamp.
I am not holding my breath... :)

Sadly... the only way I see to really change the USA for the better... would require a long soft recession... to remove lots of built in waste from the economy, stuff like:
*Endless entitlement spending so we can have migrant farm workers living on below poverty wages
*The endless desire for expensive cars (a new high end decked out SUV could tip the scales at 6 figures)
*The idea the biggest house one can afford, is a right
We need to get AWAY from the idea the quality of our lives are defined by the most expensive toys!
(Personally, I believe my life is defined by my relationship with God and Christ, however that is another thread)

I am in the autumn of my life (retirement age), so by the time the world goes into another 30's style depression (and ends up being taken over by a charismatic BS artist)... it will not matter to me.
I truly feel sorry for our kids (and grandkids) though... :(

JawJa and Glenn

Just so you know what to expect here....most of the members here are pretty conservative, many with a Libertairian twist. We have some staunch Trump supporters here, but several of us, myself included, have a few issues with Trump.

Now...that doesn't mean we are anti-Trump like the rabid Democrats are; it just means we're not as enamored with him as some of you are.

Speaking for myself...I was very much opposed to Trump during the primaries. Mostly because he's not as conservative as I would prefer, and also because of his antics, which are still getting him in trouble. I did not vote for him in the primary.

In the general election, the reality was that either he or Hillary was going to win. The thought of a president Hillary terrified me so much, I did vote for Trump.

Thank God he won, and I do my best to support him when I can. I still don't care for his antics and I wish he wasn't do controversial; but I will admit that most of what he's actually done has been good. I think he got off to a pretty terrible start with many of his staff choices, but seems to have found his way in recent months. I expected all along that he would be good for the economy, and that has proven correct thus far.

I really wish he would knock off some of the theatrics, though, and be more "presidential". And for someone who prides himself as a deal maker, I think he could do better job at getting congress off their butts so we can fix some things such as repealing Obamacare and addressing our spending problem. A true leader can bring people together; Reagan is the perfect example of that.

Still...I am indebted to Trump for defeating Hillary. I truly believe that had she won, our nation would have suffered irreparable damage and possibly never recovered.

I would not count on much Trump support from Romney...
His track record is more 'swamp creature' than Constitutional conservative.

Note this is not a racial or religious comment... however:

IMO Romney running in Utah... is more about representing the interests of his chosen faith...
Than the interests of the American people.

Romney would likely be neither a problem nor a champion for the GOP. He's a decent guy and somewhat of a moderate in his politics.

He chose Utah because he knew he could get elected to the senate there. He wouldn't have stood a chance in Massachusetts.

Trump supports him now in hopes he won't run against him in the next election.
