I was a little "put off" this afternoon when I got to work. I came in through the lower level and around to the elevator. A man stepped off with papers in his hand. I got on and held the door because I knew he'd be back in a second when he saw the office he was headed for was closed.
He tried the door and made an about face, saying "Hold the elevator". (Which I was doing anyway so he wouldn't have to wait for another ride).
He asked why that particular office was closed. I told him it was a furlough day for that office. He said "Must be nice to get a four day weekend"
I couldn't help myself. I said "You could have a long weekend to if you didn't mind giving up a days pay" and walked off on the first floor.
I'm a conservative and don't support raising the taxes. Pretty much everyone I work with have not complained about the furlouogh days and have been taking them in stride. WE didn't make the commissioners raise the mil rate. We are finishing our furlough days scheduled in May and there hasn't been ONE SINGLE FURLOUGH day that a citizen has complained to me about this or that office being closed. I say, "Suck it UP and shut up". Don't complain about the lack of service on one hand and the mil rate going up on the other.
County employees being furloughed is all well and good until it is YOU who needs fingerprinting services or court documents or to pay a ticket on time or get your marriage license.
