Let's Go Brandon!!!

We're in Tampa for a few days to attend the Tampa RV Convention again this year. We don't own an RV and have never owned an RV but became interested in them last year so we then began the journey of learning about them to decide which model best fits our needs. We have two motorcycles so it has to be a "toy hauler" for it to check all the necessary boxes. Last year we picked out one but didn't purchase it since we needed more time before making a final decision. Last year the model was approximately $60k...this year the same model is now $89k so thanks Brandon. Keep up the good work.

For the record, we won't be getting one this year either. Maybe by next year the prices may come down some plus we'll already be moved in to our new house so we'll have plenty of space to park it when not in use.

We're staying at an RV we rented through VRBO. It's not a fancy model, it's a small basic "entry" level model but it has served its purpose well so far. This site doesn't have wi-fi but I'm using my phone's "hotspot" option and have been able to work and check social media from my laptop with no issue. Since I "work" from home the thought of working from an RV just as efficiently and being able to travel at the same time is appealing. I would never consider living in an RV permanently but being able to get away often but still work is sounded better and better.

Better make sure it has a high capacity exhaust fan.

Have you considered buying a used one? I considered buying one to live in while my house is getting built. There are a bunch of used ones that seem to be quite a bit cheaper.

I wonder if they are impacted by the same chip issues as the main manufacturers. Do RVs use chassis from the big three or do they build the things from scratch?

We're looking at 5th wheel toy-hauler models and have now completely changed our minds on which we like the most. We're now looking at the Keystone Fuzion 379. It's really nice and checks all the boxes we need it to check but it just ain't happening this year. It's just not in the cards (or budget) this year, but it's fun going through each model and comparing the different options and quality between each make and model.

Currently most used ones which are 3 years or newer are actually selling for MORE than their original price. I'm also hearing the quality of the new models are substantially lower for several reasons, one being the shortage of skilled workers.

Starting on January 22, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security will require that non-U.S. individuals entering the United States via land ports of entry or ferry terminals along our Northern and Southern borders be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and be prepared to show related proof of vaccination.

“How do you force a mandate on a bunch of truck drivers who have been out there on the front line for 20 months and never asked for anything?” Hitchcock asked. “They were the ones that kept our economy moving and supplies (going), so you never ran out of food.”

Biden’s vaccine mandate will likely hit the automobile manufacturing industry the hardest. Auto Care Association Bill Hanvey warned the vaccination requirement could further strain the supply chain.

By the time you map out the supply chain, it’s just a spider web going everywhere. I would be surprised if there are any (U.S.) cars that don’t have at least one Canadian-based part. Canada is a pretty important part of auto manufacturing. Any part that doesn’t arrive or if there’s something wrong with it, you can’t build it. There’s more points of failure.

The ones that keep the A/C on when the engine shuts off at a traffic light?

Yep, I'll take it. :)
My area manager just bought a new Ford Edge that uses gas, however it has an option that you can turn on that will turn off the engine if you are at the stop light, or idling for an extended time... I said, "Well that will help make the gas mileage better." She said, "Yea, but the A/C turns off too!"

Oh, hell no! :faint:

Of course she said now that it is winter, and not too hot, it has been fine, but she would probably not use it in the summer.

Her question was; Is it hard on the engine or starter with the car stopping and starting the engine so often?

Since I know nothing of that technology, I said that I had no idea. What to you guys know about it?

Yep, most of the new ones kill the engine when you stop. They do have an override button. But the eTorque uses the electric motor to spin the compressor while the engine is shut off. Not to mention an additional 130 ft lbs of torque.

What type of wear and tear is happening to the engine as it kills the engine when stopped?

She has the choice to have that feature off if she wants.
