Whew, this gas line is turning into a pain. It's 30" below grade, and under the deck. Gonna have to pull up more decking boards and at least three joists so I can work in there, and dig a big ole hole. I'll be working on it for awhile.

Is the Union leaking or is there a pinhole in the line?
Now that I've opened it up some, it appears that the pipe is rotted in the wall. I sprayed some soap up in there and it just barely babbles. You can smell the gas at the basement wall.

What you're actually seeing there is where the iron pipe transitions to the compression connector were it attaches to the plastic under ground.

This is the new one

This is way too much like work! Now I know exactly what parts I'll need. A plumber buddy will come over as soon as he gets over the Wuhan and we'll fix it.

Remember to head to party city for the plastic life sized skeleton to leave partially buried when you close up the deck. Will make it interesting for the next guy who has to replace the deck. :)
