Why are Most Doctor\'s Business Offices Run by Morons

aka "The Jackal"
Once again I am accosted by morons. twice in the same week.

Incident one: I paid a doctors bill in full last month. I mailed the check 3 days after I got the bill. I got a late notice for the same bill with a penalty fee this month. I enclosed a copy of the canceled check, which showed that it posted 16 days before the 30 day grace period, with the new bill and thought that would be the end of it. I get a call Tuesday from an imbecile at the office saying that they have now credited the payment, but since it was credited after 30 days, I still owe the penalty, and they expect payment immediately. I was not kind.

Incident two: I received a bill from another doctor last week, and paid it this Tuesday. I just got a call from a collection agency for the doctor's office demanding immediate payment. I explained to them that I saw the Doctor on September 9th, the Insurance Company paid their part on September 20th, I got the bill last Thursday, and paid it this Tuesday. They finally got at a copy of the actual bill after a ten minute back and forth. I was not kind.

Is it that hard to run an accounts receivable department at a doctor's office? Really?

LTD yes it apparently is. I go through that kind of thing all the time. The last time I called to cancel an appointment. Left a message, received a message back, thanking me for canceling and reminding me to reschedule. I forget to reschedule, but when I saw the envelope in the mail I remembered and thought it was a reminder. Not. It was a bill for the missed appointment. Insurance does not pay it and they expect their money immediately. I called, argued, was getting no where, when I remembered, they called and left a message on the house phone. I never delete those. So as she was telling me how horrible it was not to show up and the doctors time is money I was going through the messages. When I got to hers, and it was her, I asked her to hold a minute and just started playing it. When it was finished she said she did not know what to say, she was sorry. I told her she should expect a bill for all of the time of mine she wasted. I sent an e-mail to the office manager with the recording attached and still haven't heard anything back. Morons.

:laugh That's awsome!

I kept getting a bill for a procedure that I was told would be covered under my insurance. So I called and apparently it wasn't coded the right way. They told me that they would recode it and refile with insurance. Well a couple months later I got another bill for the same thing. So I called again and this time she was just about to take my account information because I was going to just pay the dang thing when she realized that they actually did get paid by the insurance company. These people need to wake up and start paying attention to what they are doing!

OH EM GEE...that was my exact thought. I could tell you a story to make you cry (three, actually), but I just don't care enough to.

But I will say to MamaHog - don't back down. They tried that with me on a $13,500 hospital stay when I KNEW I was in the right, and I'm sure a lot of people would have just said oh well, I guess I owe it. Don't do it. As LTD said, don't be kind.
