Why are we experiencing an epidemic of open sin in the church today?

I just had to share this. It kinda goes along with what I posted about earlier.

*****

Why are we experiencing such an epidemic of open – and not-so-open – sin in the church today?… [Because] we have promoted a “gospel” that says it is possible to be a Christian while stubbornly refusing to address practices or behaviors we know are sinful. We have accepted the philosophy that it’s OK for Christians to look, think, act, and talk like the world. We have made it an offense to admonish people about their sin, either privately or, when necessary, publicly. If only we were as loath to commit sin as we are to confront it! ~ Nancy Leigh DeMoss

I do know some people with the attitude, "I will do this knowing it's a sin because God will forgive me."

What about 2 Cor 6:17?

King James Version

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Believe me. I don't claim to be perfect, but it is my opinion that the decline of the church is the current effort to be more like the world in our worship, music, appearance, etc. They say that more people can be reached if we give them an environment that is more "progressive". I've visited so many churches that feel like a combination of a night club and youth rally. I don't even feel like I've been to church and get absolutely ZERO out of the experience.

Everything is going non-denominational, also thinking they can draw more people than a traditional church. Some make no public call during the service for people to surrender their lives to Christ. I NEVER thought I'd see that in my lifetime. Many don't preach Heaven High and Hell Hot anymore, thinking they may offend or drive off potential members who attend church these days for a "social experience" and/or tax deduction.

I feel very strongly about this issue. I haven't been a member of what I consider a God fearing, Bible believing church since the late 1990's. They are going away.

One thing that really bothered me about worship services in the Army was they had to be generic to where they couldn't offend anyone. The Army has chaplains for each Christian denomination, yet there were things they were prohibited in saying. When a chaplain opened in event or ceremony with a prayer, he could say "Father" and "God," but could not say Jesus because there may be some in attendance who were not Christians. Unbelievable. While I was in Afghanistan, I quit going to chapel services because they were so bland that I wasn't being fed. I was better off just praying and reading scripture on my own.

Oh, Madea - you have stumbled onto one of my HUMONGOUS soapboxes. I'll try to keep my response short. Several things contribute to this, but I'll have to wait to comment in a bit when I'm a little less busy. Suffice it to say if the CHURCH WOULD BE THE CHURCH and stop trying to be the world, the world would change to the point where we wouldn't even recognize it (in a good way).

I agree with that!!!

Some churches are becoming so "politically correct" that it's ridiculous. Most churches won't touch some topics because they are afraid of scaring away their big donors. My personal opinion is that when a church stops teaching that the whole Bible is true, it's time for me to find a new church.

I had a pastor tell me, "I personally believe the Old Testament has nothing to do with today, but if you tell anyone in the congregation that, I'll deny it." What? The Old Testament has plenty to do with today.

What?!?!?!?!

See, that's the root of the problem - too many churches are worried about what the congregation think and not about what God's word says....

JR,

I would invite you to visit Legacy Baptist Church. They are a Bible believing church and give an alter call at each service.

Thanks, If I'm not mistaken, I researched LBC on the internet one day. I will remember to make a point to stop in. And by all means, come visit us more often on The Hwy. I've always enjoyed your posts. ;D

I have been pondering this for a couple of years. I posted on my fb status awhile back, "there is so much world in the church there is no room for God". And I believe that.

I think church boards are squelching the pastor from preaching the truth. It's all about $$$. And you are all right, the church has to be politically correct. The more worldly it is, the more welcome it is.

Folks used to be drawn to church to see the movement of God. But now by the time folks get their coffee, sing a few of those almost meaningless wall songs and the pastor has to make sure he gets folks home in time to see the current sports game, the time for God moving is just gone.

I have talked with a close friend and told her I would just like to find a small church with no programs, where you walk in and sing hymns, pray and listen to a pastor preach the full truth. I don't want to attend a church to be social, I want to go there to worship God.

AND the first place I was examined was me. How much world was I carrying around with me? I had to make some changes in my life. Like Lil Bro said, I am not perfect either but I am trying my best to be Christ like.

I really don't know where to start but here goes.....I'm a whole lot different than I used to be....for the last 2 years God has shown me his mighty works.....I saw people that hadn't been able to walk....walk out of wheel chairs....I saw people that had tumors get healed and the tumors vanished....I saw and witness kidneys being created like new and start working.....its been an awesome experience....this is something that I have prayed and seeked God for....seems like forever that I prayed and read the Bible and knew God was able to do these things cause the Bible said so.....I remember being so angry with God about this.....Cause I wanted to see more of him and less of everything else......I go to church a whole lot different then I used to go.....I go ready to see God move....all excited knowing he is .....I can't explain it.....I wished I could but when I wake up.....its me and him all day long....I found out that I was the church.....and he lives in me...I just wished I could explain it.....When my daughter was in labor the doc told me around 6:00 pm that these could go on until 10PM....she hadn't dilated .....something about you dilate 1 cm a hour....she was figuring around 10PM ...then everyone decided to leave and go down stairs to go eat......left me in the room with Heather alone.....I said...God....its me and you and Heather.....and I laid my head on her belly and began to pray.......My grand baby was born at 7:29 PM.....No I didn't have to call the preacher.....are my friends....I just knew I could call on him and he answered....oh well.....I could go on ..but I got to get ready for church......

I think the church has forgotten this message:

1Co 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
1Co 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
1Co 2:3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
1Co 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
1Co 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

We are relying on our own wisdom, watering down the gospel to remove the offense, marketing it for mass appeal, instead of relying on the power of God.

Thanks

If you do come to visit, keep in mind we no longer meet at Chattahoochee Tech. They have built a new church on Hwy 381. The directions are on the website: www.legacybc.org

“Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work” (2 John 9-11). The apostle Paul instructed the Galatians that “if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: if anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!” (Gal. 1:8-9).

I have so much to say on this subject....but not enough time right now! LOL

I agree with the original quote from Madea. I'll try to remember to come back later when I have time to talk about this, because I'd really like to!
