will Bernie be the death of the Democratic Party?

I don't know, but I'm enjoying the heck out of watching the panic within the party leadership.

No, probably not.

I haven't searched but I suspect there were probably similar 'Could Trump kill the Republican party' articles back in 2016.

I wish both parties would go away or at least be diminished enough for a viable third party.

Unless the majority of the nation are demon possessed or have gone totally insane, then I believe he may be the death of the dems or at the least, make them sick for a decade.

I would have no problem with a 3rd party as long as that 3rd party was to the Right of the soft spine republicans that we have now. Yes....a 3rd party more conservatives than the run-of-the-mill republicans. Certainly not in the wishy-washy middle between the democrats and republicans.

We certainly cannot afford Sanders to be elected, as his policies would ruin our economy. We would see the middle-class shrink while the number in poverty increased significantly. It's what socialism does.

The Libertarian party comes to mind if only they wouldn't nominate crazy people.

I would love to have a viable 3rd party, but not seeing one. Agree with cptlo about the Libertarians; I like many of their ideals, but they chose some nut cases for candidates.

The Libertarian Party has been a huge disappointment in the selecting of their candidates. Their poor choices also make it impossible to raise enough money to fund a viable campaign. Who wants to donate money to a conservative candidate that sounds like a crackpot? I know liberal voters donate to crackpots all the time. That just goes to show conservatives are more logical in thought than liberals.

Especially after the pot head they nominated last time, how can anyone take the party seriously? What got me was his statement that he would stop smoking refer if he won. Ummm, how about kicking the weed BEFORE you run? To me, the Libertarian Party lost a lot of credibility over that. While I have some Libertarian views, I have no respect for the party.

Another problem is that the Electoral College (though I absolutely support the concept of it) is designed around a two party system, and that stacks the odds against a 3rd party candidate. Though not impossible for one to win the presidency, it's highly improbable. If no candidates get the required 270 electoral votes, the House chooses the president from the top three vote getters and the Senate chooses the VP from the top two vote getters. Since the majority of Congress is made up and Rs and Ds, it would be unlikely that the 3rd party candidate would win.

A third party candidate would have to be able to capture the hearts of a majority of Americans to win 270 electoral votes. I'm not seeing anyone on the radar screen who could run third party and pull that off. The last candidate who might could have done that was Reagan.
