I sold my wedding ring, after the divorce from Mr. Lisa #1. I was shocked by how much difference there was in my original appraisal and what I got for it. I'd really wanted more for it, since I was giving the proceeds to a single mom at my church. But, that's when I found out how overpriced jewelry really was. :faint
Mr. Lisa

that made me chuckle

My jewelry person doesn't charge me for my insurance appraisals... That makes me happy. Lord knows I spend enough money with him!

I love diamonds... I just wished they didn't cost so stinking much.

This ring was insured by State Farm for 10 years with a separate jewelry policy. Not one year did they ask for an updated appraisal.
That is good for you because formal appraisals are charged. Informal ones are not.
Usually that runs about 250.00 at least for a formal written appraisal. My insurance only required one. I was blessed.

As much as I love shoes and purses you would think I would love jewelry more. When we do, and by we I mean husband, buy we use Migliore's in Buckhead. They love my husband and give him great deals. We are not charged for appraisals either and also are required by the insurance company to have them reappraised every so often. (I am not sure of the time frame)

We have to have reappraisals done every two years for our insurance company (Cotton States). Brown & Co. did our last one and I don't believe they charged us. But, like you said, we're customers so they make money off of us other ways...

Now gun and tool appraisals are another story - we turned those in and they haven't asked for an update except she. We add or delete some from the policy.

I have State Farm on the house and car and a separate policy for jewelry on this piece. State Farm never asked for repeated reaappraisals.
As for as reality, I think I live in that and have considered that to be true.
I thought initially this would be a thread to comment on for the sale of the ring, not for other means.
I do appreciate your constructive comments and will take it elsewhere.

We update our policy to reflect changes so when you make those changes (like adding and removing items), the insurance company likes to have current information. I could probably get by with an old appraisal since I've been with them for so long, but usually a trip to Brown & Co. gets me something pretty... And when I get something pretty, the hubby gets... well, you're a newlywed, so you can guess..
