Boat Ramp Etiquette

So we go to pull the boat out this evening. They have two ramps there...there's some dude working on his boat while sitting on one of them and has it tied up the whole time we're there. One ramp left and there's just one boat in front of us, not too bad.

BUT...this guy pulls his boat out and stops on the ramp as soon as he clears the water. Then he proceeds to completely empty his boat into his truck, drain the bilge, put all the tie-downs on, and clean all the trash out of it. He couldn't pull up on the parking lot and do it there...nooo, he has to tie up the ramp while he does all this and I'm sitting there with my engine running waiting on him.

And if that wasn't bad enough....his wife was in the boat the whole time and every time she'd bend over her low-rise jeans would slide down her big fat butt and show her butt cheeks with a red thong between them.

People be rude!!!

Did you try saying anything to him? I find that people often don't mean to be rude. It's either forgetfulness or ignorance.

I thought about it but he had to see me, I was sitting there in the boat just off the end of the ramp. And my son-in-law was driving my truck waiting at the top of the ramp.

Awww...you're so cute. We Southerners don't like to say things in these situations. Now, if a yankee were in that situation, he'd think nothing of saying, "Hey, buddy - move that truck so I can get down there!" But alas, we don't want to appear rude. (Not good or bad...just different. I love my yankee friends, and actually admire the ease with which they matter-of-factly handle stuff like this.)

Sometimes I wish I had a little more Rodney Dangerfield in me.

He'd no exactly what to say. And I'm sure it would be polite, yet effective.

I am not beyond explaining to them that there is a reason why there are only two ramps and 50 parking spaces. Move it.

When I back in everything is ready to go except unhooking the slack winch line. When I pull on I re-hook the winch, raise the motor and scoot. It's not only good etiquette, it's just plain common sense.

Exactly. Fish a tournament and you learn quick.

But your Momma raised you right :D

This has nothing to do with boat ramps, but it does have to do with rude, so I'll just share it here . . . :p :))

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I was going into the double doors at the bank. The bank has two sets of doors. As I entered the first set a woman pushing an older man in a wheelchair was coming out of the bank at the other set of doors. I held the interior door and "assumed" the man behind me would catch the other door for them. So, I held the door, she said a polite thank you and began toward the next doors that I was still partially holding since I had just come in. The man behind me came in through the door that I was holding and never offered to help! She had to maneuver the wheelchair past him and through the doors. ARGH! I was furious. And there he stood smugly behind me in line. I could still kick myself for not letting him know what a low life I really thought he was!

There is NO EXCUSE for rudeness!!! Madea, I hate that kind worst of all...a hale and hearty man not only ignored a handicapped couple, but let you hold the door for him. GAH!!!

I stop before a door if a man is walking anywhere near me. If he doesn't reach around me and open it, I glare at him as I'm opening it myself. If a teenager or young kid (5yo nephew is great at this) holds the door for me, I make sure to thank him and tell him that being a gentleman is a Very Good Thing!

While I am a Georgia native I would have applied the lessons I learned while driving "up north" years ago.
(1) Most boats have horns I would have applied the appropriate amount of pressure to the horn blowing mechanism. if that didn't do it then see #2
(2) Most trucks have horns therefore I and the driver of the truck would have simultaneously applied the appropriate amount of pressure to the horn blowing mechanism in the boat and the truck.

My gf is flying up to DC for a conference on Wed. She said she was going to buy me a thong while she was up there. :laugh I can see it now with the Washington Monument on it. :laugh
