Wait until after the elections and then turn the screws loose if they capture both houses and can force stuff through.

However, they won't get either house if they let the government shut down now. And if they go through another 30 votes trying to get a leader it will look worse!

I agree it's probably bad timing.

But why can't the GOP get some actual conservatives in leadership? I'm tired of them just being Democrat light.

I like MTG, the female version of DJT. Give em hell Marjorie. I know it’s a waste of time but that’s all they do there anyway. It’s not like if she doesn’t say it or do it anything good will come out of it or that we’ll be better off.

Part of the problem is the leader of the Republican party has a habit of bashing actual conservatives in Congress and elsewhere simply because they hurt his little fragile ego. See Thomas Massie as just one example.

That has zero to do with the GOP not being very conservative. They've been crappy for many years.

And you wonder why I say you guys blame everything on Trump.

First, nobody here has ever said Trump is to blame for everything. Nobody.

Second, if the leader of the Republican party bashes real conservatives and threatens to primary them, how does that not impact how conservative the GOP is? What am I missing here?

Supporting Trump for POTUS doesn't mean you have to ignore and whitewash his negatives.

And I never have, I've been clear that I have issues with him. But he is not to blame for the GOP not being conservative. If anything, he actually gave a few of them balls in his first term.

Simple question....how does bashing real conservatives and threatening to primary them not result in the GOP being less conservative over time? Turning Republican voters against real conservatives like Massie simply because he supported DeSantis and hurt Trump's fragile ego is not good for conservatism. Back before DeSantis dropped out and Massie (and others) actively supported him, tons of Trump supporters on Twitter denounced Massie and declared they would never vote for him.

Again, how does all that not negatively impact overall conservatism within the GOP?

I'll answer that myself...it does even if Trump supporters don't want to acknowledge it.

Trump bashes for various reasons, not because they are conservative.

He also bashes the RINOs (McConnel, etc). By your logic, Trump is to blame for the GOP not being liberal enough.

I never said Trump bashed them because they are conservative. I said Trump bashed them because they hurt his little feelings.

Very possible, but that doesn't make the party less conservative. Frankly, that's a ridiculous claim.

Trump bashed Christie, he's not very conservative.

Trump bashed Haley, y'all said she's a Democrat.

Does eliminating RINOs make the party less conservative? I don't see how.

Trump bashes some real conservatives.
That results in Trump supporters bashing and refusing to support those real conservatives.
That results in those real conservatives getting fewer votes for reelection or even when running for House speaker.
Fewer votes for real conservatives results and more votes for those that simply kiss Trump's ass (think Lindsey Graham) makes the Republican party less conservative.

I'm seriously not understanding how this is confusing.

Nice job of cherry-picking some less conservative Republicans that Trump has bashed and ignoring more conservative Republicans that he has also bashed.

Thomas Massie, DeSantis, Chip Roy....all very conservative that Trump has bashed repeatedly.

You mean he bashed DeSantis. That's what this is really about. Y'all need to accept the fact that Ron was not going anywhere in this election. It's not his time.

But using your logic, he made the GOP more conservative by bashing liberals and RINOs.

Go Trump!
