Ugh, my new washer

I was in a WalMart recently that made the experience of the Hiram WalMart seem enjoyable. Truly frightening.

 Seriously? Where the heck were you and don't go back?!!
Luray, VA and, as hubby said, we could have filled up the whole People of Walmart web page in that one location alone.

I wanted to get a front loader because I wanted to put a counter top on top of them. I've heard you have to let them air out or they will stink. I dunno, I guess we'll try them. Probably the steam ones that SD talked about. But we are going to wait untill the top loader dies.

I haven't had any stinky issues with mine. We also have the piece that goes across the top. That's really nice. Since they don't have the control panel on the back things can fall behind. I love mine and it's just a basic model.

Unless wifey forces the issue, we're staying with conventional for awhile. Our washer is good; dryer is getting lame but we can replace it pretty cheap.

I think the front loaders need some more time to work the bugs out.

Plus they cost too dern much.

Yo Geek! They are built on the same technology as commercial washers that have been around for YEARS. We purchased ours at ApplianceSmart in Lithia. No more than a conventional set really. Cleaner clothes, less water, quicker drying time.

They have been on the market for a while now. Most people do not have issues anymore with them. (They had that stink issue for some time, but I have not heard that from most that have bought in the last few years.) Now cost wise. Um, yeah. I paid many pretty pennies for mine, but I seriously LOVE them.

RE: MAdea and Diva

They have gotten better, but still having some issues. They are also continually adding features that make them better. The best is yet to come.

We're in no hurry and our laundry room would have to be remodeled because I custom built in shelves and cabinets (I'm special like that) around the standard washer and dryer. So we're taking our time. Wifey isn't excited about the newer ones either, especially until we get a wedding and college paid for.

It's recommended you take a towel and wipe off the rubber seal and the back of the door when you're finished to prevent mold. Whether you know it or not, mold can build up in a top loader as well.

I really like my front loader, too. I bought it 5 years ago, and I've never had the odor problem, either.

IF this one ever wears out, I will get a top loader again that works a lot like the front loader. I was torn when I purchased. Why? Because it never fails....as soon as I hear that "click" I find something else that needs to go in!

You don't have a way to put more in? Mine has a setting to add clothes. (I *believe it tilts the drum back so water doesn't spew out)

Well, it has an "add an item" feature, but it takes too long. It literally takes about 5 minutes to stop the cycle, settle the water, and unlock the door, and then it starts the cycle. I'm too impatient. I want to lift that lid, drop it in, and run to my other chores!

Wow. That is long. I could not give you a time on mine, but I assure you I would not be waiting around that long. I am impatient too! :D

My biggest issue with front load machines is the lack of a soak option. Ok, sure ... you can go back and stop the machine after it has run for a while but if you forget, you're screwed. With a top load, you just leave the top open. Between soaking and Biz I've gotten out things that commercial cleaners have told me would never come out. Plus I'm with IF on the tossing extra stuff in thing.

Since I've had my front loader, I haven't had a stain issue. No need to soak. Even my son's white, football practice pants come out just fine.

The issue with adding stuff has only been a problem for me a couple of times. But, with 2 kids around there's always another load that needs to be done. :tapfoot2

I often have to deal with saving clothes that have been washed and dried elsewhere and get then set in stains out of them. And if I have just one or two things that could go in the wash, it would just annoy me to no end to not be able to toss them in.

Now if I were to suddenly becoming grossly wealthy and my housekeeper wanted a frontload machine I'd probably go ahead and get her one. LOL!

My front loader gets my clothes a lot cleaner than my top loader ever did. If I forget to put something in the wash load, I just wait until I have another to do in a few days.

Mine is less then 30 seconds to toss something in. I never thought about it before so I timed it. I have a steam washer. I have not had one stain not come out since purchased. Saturday my son was covered in red dye from the little kiddos hanging on him. His shorts were white Abercrombie ones that he paid way too much for so he was in a panic. He came home that night, threw them in and with out any "treatment" they came out fine. No bleach, just Arm and Hammer HE detergent.

I just checked again, lol, my washer does have a soak option, who knew? I have never used it though, because clothes always come clean, but it is there!

Very true. The frontloaders are amazing how clean they get clothing.

I am not trying to change anyones mind. Just pointing out some things that might be keeping people from getting these machines. (other than cost, I could not blame anyone if it is the cost that is holding them back) I wash 3 times as much as I did at one time, the clothes are much cleaner, and if they could figure out a way from them to fold them and put them away, I would be in heaven! :D

I have heard from a lot of people that they get them cleaner so the soak option doesn't matter to them. With me having to deal with clothes that have had stains set in at other locations that I then have to fight that argument is moot. Nice to hear that yours does have a soak option SD but it also sounds like you paid a lot of money for yours. Another reason I won't be getting one anytime soon. lol

LOL..I did and like I said from the cost aspect, it is a large one. ( I don't blame anyone from shying away from that!) If I ever use that soak option I will post about it. Heck I might just use it to see what it does. (ha ha ha...I am such a dork. How did I not know it was there?)
