Why Home Depot? Why?

My wife and I were at Home Depot in Hiram looking at storm doors. The nice ones are unaccessible because they have them mounted on frames above those you can open and check out. The nice ones are also special order. Now why would I want to special order a door when I can't inspect the hardware and locks to make sure they are of quality? We didn't buy any storm doors at Home Depot. We'll go check Lowe's later on.

Funny.

I was looking at doors and windows at HD a while back. Similar thing, the nice ones were special order. I guess, like most things in our society, they cater to the lowest common denominator.

I've noticed that HD tends to go toward the less expensive end, while Lowes tries to be a bit more upscale. Also, Lowes caters a bit more to the ladies.

As a contractor, I typically prefer Depot by a slight margin; but the wifey likes Lowes. Lucky for me, we have a Depot here in town and Lowes is 15 minutes further out.

But most of the time I can live with either.

I was shopping for an interior door there last weekend. I will go ahead and admit I'm a bit out of the loop on the pricing of some things. But when I discovered that the door I wanted was special order and $325 for an interior door, well . . . well, let's just said I almost Guard Dadded them!

Charmed them with exceptional wit and good looks?

If I tried that would I get a better deal on the door?

Because I really thought about doing something much more painful to them! And that's with NO hardware! I always forget they don't include that!

::shakeshead:: I think the answer to that is no.

There is a reason why HoDe does this, but I forget why. I think it MAY have something to do with our area. Every store has a "letter" based on clientel and sales. When I say clientel, I mean that based on what is purchased. Our store is an F, I think.

I can't remember, I could be totally wrong.

I have always thought that HD was more contractor friendly and Lowe's does cater to women, that's why I shop there. Their stores are usually more nicely kept than HD. ;D

Quite true. Depot looks more like a warehouse, Lowes a little more like a showroom. No doubt on purpose.

I do prefer Lowes. Really, it has nothing to do with the look. The employees are more professional and actually ASK if they can help. HD- not so much. We live near the Acworth store and pass HD just to go to Lowes. Also, the Paint Manager, Bob, is completely awesome!! Hubby calls him my boyfriend (he is right).

Sadly, the Hiram Depot is not managed nearly as well as it once was. They used to have a lady manager that was really on top of things. I believe I recall that she was transferred elsewhere, and the store hasn't been ran as well since.

I love home depot. I do some work for a company that one one time filled some of the custom door and window orders for them and Lowes, from what I hear it was a nightmare.

We found the door we wanted at Lowe's, but we have to order it in the color we want. We couldn't order it tonight because the person working in that department had already gone home for the night. Good grief.

Man alive, it shouldn't be that hard to spend money ... especially not in this current economy. What the heck?

Customer service just isn't what it used to be. While we were at Home Depot, several employees asked if they could be of assistance. At Lowe's, not one single employee approached us. Ever notice that at fast food places the employees who take your order seem to act as if you're bothering them?

Homey Depot fan here. I use the Acworth store. I used to be a Lowe's fan until the STORE MANAGER was rudeness personified after I complained about two of his employees being rude to me (and trust me - I am not a complainer...it takes a LOT to make me mad in a store). Oh, and that was after I had just spent $1,100 in his store!!! Since then, I stick to HD. The Acworth HD store's employees are almost annoying about asking if they can help when I'm there. (Not really annoying, but you get the idea.)

I wish we had a Lowes in Dallas. I need to tell my Deep Homo Home Depot Hooror story, but I'll hold off. Same with me and the screen door I'm looking for. The one I need with a doggie door is special order and I can only look at a picture of it, I'l be going to Lowes to buy it. :'(

I looked online for a shirt that said "No thanks, I'm good" to wear when I go there but haven't found one yet :)

That is by far my favorite home depot, I was there on black Friday and they had free donuts and coffee.

If they had complimentary beer, you'd be there all the time. :))
