Covid is right here, and it's getting bad fast.

FYI - interestingly, his death will NOT be listed as due to covid. According to the case worker, when a person comes to them as a patient with a major issue, unless the death is accidental, the original issue is always the cause of death. In this case the Blood Marrow Cancer rather than the Covid. In any case, the nurse believes he had already cleared the covid from his body, he continued to decline because fighting the covid took too much energy.
 
School called again... 2nd class exposure was last Friday. (notified 7 days later...)

Kiddo cannot go back to school sans mask until the 22nd... :( :( :(

The virtual instruction is a joke. (not bashing teachers, as they asking them to do double duty.)
So we are winging it on our own... watching history documentaries, baking, writing music, creating costumes.
Try as I might to make it fun... staying home with Mom is a poor substitute for in person educational enrichment.

What we are doing to these children is criminal, and not at all based on science.

But being the eternal optmist, we are making
the most of these strange and awful times together...

Now that Orange Man Bad is gone... they are trying to open schools. Problem is that the scare tactics to make it seem like Orange Man was killing people and wanted people to die by opening the schools, is now hard to undo...

That and the teachers union has to posture like they are keeping their Union Members safe... the union does little, but takes a lot of money. They have to act like they give the teaches something for all that cash they siphon out of their paychecks.

These teacher unions are bad for education and how they are reacting to this pandemic wanting the classrooms to remain closed proves that. I would say the majority of people today who are physically going to work every day are working in retail (includes grocery stores), restaurants (fast food as well) and medical care facilities. That's a much larger number of people who actually go to a work site every day than there are teachers. You know at the very least, the majority of these teachers are going to grocery stores every day. I would be willing to wager there are many of them who don't wear a mask while shopping or are wearing it incorrectly. Many of them probably stop at a restaurant of some sort and get something to eat. Many of them who teach high school probably are served by their students.

My point is these teachers and their unions are such hypocrites because they are exposing themselves to the virus every time they go out the front door of their home. The CDC and Trump administration were saying last Summer that schools should reopen and that it would be safe for them to do so. This is not some new announcement coming out since Biden was sworn it; it's information established months ago now being repeated to get schools to reopen. The MSM is trying to make it look it's recent news only because they feel it makes Biden look good. "Oh look. Now that Biden is the president, it is now safe to send kids back to school. Biden is our hero."

On the radio they said that the teachers were all vaccinated in one county in Maryland... now the Teachers union is saying teachers can't teach until the kids are vaccinated.

Well, that ain't happening because there are no vaccines approved for children...

Not only are there no vaccines for children, in Sweden where schools did not close -ever, only 4 kids were hospitalized and died. All had horrible underlying conditions which made me wonder why they went to school. In the USA medically fragile children like those (cancer and other immune compromised medical conditions) generally do not go to a school, but have support teachers and remote learning.

Children are not the ones having problems with this virus... it is the 65 and older.
 
Just to play devils advocate for a moment, I don't see the logic in sending kids to school where they become 20-30 little petrie dishes that eventually interact with 20-30 other petrie dishes. This becomes a problem when they go home to their parents and Grand-parents. Grade school kids can be spread out and controlled within reason for the day, but middle and high schools change classes and the 20-30 petrie dishes intermingle all day long. This is the perfect recipe to spread a disease.
Then, when the kids are there, they are wearing masks,,, I hate that they can not see their smiling friends or see each others facial expressions when they interact.
We need herd immunity and we need it fast.

That is why we need to get all grandma and grandpa people vaccinated.

I will tell you here in kalifornia is is a kluster eff...

I have tried to go on the sites to get my 83 year old mom an appointment, none to be found... and yet the news shows all sorts of what seem to be 30 year olds getting the vaccine.

Her medical provider Kaiser apparently had not received even enough vaccines to cover their medical staff, so none are going to an over 80 year old like my mom, who based on statistics is the one to die if she gets the virus.

That's the way Governor DeSantis is doing it down here in Florida. Being seasoned citizens, we qualified for expedited status. The wife and I got our round 1 vaccine shots yesterday. Many of our friends down here (they are all also old folks) have had either 1 or both shots. We already have appointments for our round 2 shots in 28 days. Schools are open. Stores are open. Restaurants are open. For the most part, masks are optional.

I'm really sorry. No matter the circumstances, we are never ready to lose them. The memories will keep them in our hearts forever.

Sorry but I have to laugh at that one. Many former Rep voters will sit it out or vote 3rd party...I predict Donald Duck will get an increase in write-in votes.
