Electric vehicles....

I replaced two EV battery chargers today at a large local employer. They have a small fleet of Tesla's (maybe 8-10). The chargers were crap and lasted about 3 years.
You know, I've seen nothing on the lifespan of chargers either but it's a good point. These things will be critical infrastructure, who's going to maintain them?

And just a note, I've never seen a set under a roof like a gas station, they are always out in the open in a parking lot. So in the summer, if you are sitting inside waiting to charge, you are running the A/C which makes your charging go longer. If it's raining, you are out there in the weather trying to set up the charge. Can they make these any more inconvenient?

"If you look at history in industries, when you think of Netflix, when they went from sending DVDs to streaming them, there was a big issue around 'can that company make that transition.' I think they were successful, but the key there is they made lives easier for consumers," Fields said. "Right now, with EVs, If you're making, at least initially, life more difficult for consumers, they usually take the path of least resistance."

Everything about EVs was rushed into production because of politics. When that happens, you can expect problems, and probably lots of them. Such a schedule doesn't allow for proper testing before the stuff is thrown at consumers.

I've mentioned before that we've seen major disasters every time the feds phase out a refrigerant group and mandate a new one. And the consumer always gets stuck with the costs. BTW, it's happening all over again, and this time the "new" refrigerants are flammable. Stay tuned...

All those Electric Vehicle Charger parking spaces are close to the store and are always available. Is it illegal to park an old gas powered Ford in an EV Charging spot? Asking for a friend.

I'm seeing them used more and more, we were at the Kroger in Dallas last night and both chargers were in use, one was Tesla, the other was one of the new e-Mustangs. Still had the dealer tag on the Mustang. I can't imagine how annoying it would be to have to hook my car up to a charger every time I see one to keep the range up. I'll take "10 minute fill up for 400 miles range", Alex.

That said, if you take the signs literally,:

I don't care what man does. Goes all electric or dumps this crazy notion about climate change, nothing can or will be done to alter the climate and mankind and the Earth won't end an instant sooner or later than has been settled in the mind of God. It has nothing to do with being good stewards of this temporary place God has given us to live. We should be good stewards just because that's what He has commanded us to do, but nothing changes the plan of the universe. Only reason I way that is because I read the back of the book. So what? I cheated and jumped to the end :grin2:

While I was a Kaiser Hospital for my mom, the ground floor parking closest to the hospital was all reserved for electric vehicles.

What an elitist thing to do.

They might as well put a sign: Only cars that cost $60,000 and up allowed to park here.

It is crazy how this ESG, DEI, crap is showing up everywhere, and the subliminal signs that only those who tow the line on being Green are embraced by our society.

Such Bill S#it.

The volcanos all over the world this year have done more to the atmosphere than man, ain't no way to stop those....

This is just a way to control us with their agenda... the parking spots are like the masks they still wear to signal what a good citizen of the world they are, caring about the environment and the greater good of man.

If only they understood that those pushing it, are necessarily killing those who can least afford all this green energy all electric. This is a serious threat to food production, transportation, and the health of all of us who will not be allowed to heat or cool where we live. The goal is net zero carbon. That carbon reduction is you and I.

We considered getting a Tesla but decided the hassle of charging just wasn’t worth it, especially considering the high cost of eventual battery replacement. The cars are sharp and their performance is amazing but it’s just not for us yet. It may change once battery technology and cost improve.

An EV would work great for my wife. But, the only way I would get her out of a Denali and into an EV would be to get her a $100,000+ vehicle, and neither of us wants to spend that kind of money.

Honestly, an EV would work for me most of the time; I have a truck that's a year and a half old with only 10,000 miles on it. But now and then, we travel, and we would need something with range. I'm not going to have a vehicle that sits there 95% of the time just to use when traveling. The numbers don't work.

I don't keep up with the prices of these things, but I believe they sell for very high 5 digits,, lets say $95k. As soon as you drive it off the lot its value drops 15%, or $14k. That's a pile of money in my book, then you throw in the cost of recharging. When you are at home, you use your electricity, but depending on how much you use each month, the tiered cost increases significantly. If you charge at Kroger, there is no telling what they will charge, and you are cooling your heels while you wait for this blessed event. When you're on the road you have to wait for your charge and maybe the charging of the three cars in front of you in line.
Just when all seems normal again, the state will send you a bill for 'Road Tax' ,,, and that's why most people don't want one, Happy Motoring !!

There are some cars that are considerably less than that, but some of the trucks are on up there. The Hummer is $130,000 plus, the Caddy EV is around $300,000.
