Electric vehicles....

ADP - Additional Dealer Profit.

When the PT Cruiser came out, we had gone to Dallas Dodge to get some service work done on our van.

They had managed to get a Cruiser and had an add-on sticker proudly placed next to the official one with a couple of dealer junk items (mats, etc) and a proud "ADP: $10,000.00" I vowed to never give them any of my business again.

As a side note, the price came down... my cousin's husband bought one new.... he had more major mechanical problems with that car... either his was a lemon or the cars were crap.

I've read that some of the EVs use heat pumps to heat the inside of the vehicle. While that would be more efficient than electric resistance heat, I wonder how well they do in very cold temps. Heat pumps really struggle in the very low outdoor temps.

What they need is cheap nuclear power.

I wonder if they will be asked to not charge them overnight in case of power issues or just the little people will be asked to sacrifice?

I foresee several locomotive engine generators in their building for emergency charging if the grid has issues.

The Rivians appear to be pretty awesome. I like them much better than the Tesla Cybertruck. Only two problems....range and price.

What happens when you tow with an EV

I get nervous in my car when I am down to only 70 miles until I need to fill up... and it does not take 27 minutes!

However, it sounds like the power, stability, and the fact that it did not overheat is a bonus for towing such a heavy load.

I'll stick to gasoline for now thank you. Let me know when they work out a better battery.... and speed of re-charge.

I agree Rivian has done a superb job on their fist offering.

And I do see a market for EVs, especially for commuter cars. EX: A buddy of mine lives in Powder Springs and drives to work in Norcross five days a week. An EV would probably save him a pile of money in fuel costs!

But I still think the market is limited at this point.

My dad was a perfect customer for an electric... retired, just drove around town to eat, church, shop, and visit friends.

He had a Prius if he needed to travel, but only filled it once or twice a year.
