Russia & Ukraine...the drums of war are getting louder

Let me simplify this truth for you:

Ukraine broke away from Russia 30 years and let the group of greedy and evil people run it into the ground.

Neo-nazi groups began exterminating Jews in Ukraine almost immediately. They went from one housing complex to the next during the night, broke into the flats, demanding to know if those who lived there are jews or if their neighbors are. If someone was not a jew but married to one, they would make them watch as they killed their entire family before they killed them too.
In the daylight, they could attack you without provocation and police did nothing to stop them. Matter of fact, a lot of the police were neo-nazi and could attack you just the same.

Ukrainian government blamed everyone under the sun for the worthless money they printed, along with food ration coupons that were just as useless because there was no food. But the Ukrainian government and elites had the food and american dollars. The rest of us stood in long lines with colored paper and went home hungry daily.

Let's fast forward it to working on Ukraine being "a strong independent woman"... For decades, under their so-called presidents they have closed down most of the factories, robbed the country blind and became one of the poorest countries in the world.

Meanwhile the neo-nazi government members did shady deals with everyone they could and were getting richer and richer.

When Donbas debacle first happened (not last week) nobody in the world helped those citizens of Ukraine that were Russians, when they were dragged out of their houses and killed for... wait for it... speaking Russian.

When Ukrainian government turned beautiful and once prosperous Crimea into another poverty stricken region, persecuted the Russian population for being Russian, nobody remembered that Crimea used to be Russian and that "selling it out" to USA would be considered a security risk to Russia.

For decades Ukraine has been ruled by puppet masters, ripped apart from within by their own government that sold Ukrainians out.
If you want to feel sorry for anyone, then do so for them. The everyday people are living in poverty and not because "Ukraine's ex is evil and wants her back".

I'm so sick and tired of reading this stupidity being passed around, Russia being compared to Hitler, oh poor poor Ukraine and Zelensky, when no one even knows the facts. It's so easy to sit here and judge, listening to mainstream media and their biased opinion when you've never lived through any of that. I have. My family and friends are still living through it. And none of them know whom to trust: their own government, Russians, or Americans because they are all guilty in trying to gets their hands on a piece of Ukrainian pie at the expense of Ukrainian people.
Are you saying Putin will be better at protecting the people and rooting out corruption?

My impression is Putin is a bad dude who has stolen billions from the Russian people.

I have never felt he was a fair leader because he wants to go back to the time when Russia was run by an oligarch and the people have no say in what their life will be, as always happens in communism/marxism/socialism the people have nothing, however government leaders live in obscene luxury.

Putin is old time KGB ruthless and smart.

I can't quote names. But read up on it, he did partially close the tap. Fracking was a lot of it, he also shut down some functioning wells in Alaska.
Here's part of it.

Biden halted production in ANWAR, and implemented new restrictions on oil and gas production that effectively made the oil companies close down some drilling and fracking facilities because compliance would not have been economically feasible.

And as you mentioned, he revoked permits for Keystone and many future drilling sites that while didn't affect current production, it did affect future supply.

In addition to what he halted and effectively regulated to a halt; he sent a clear message to the oil industry that they were now dealing with a president who is hostile to the industry. In a relationship like this, the oil companies will not invest any more than they have to, and instead they will just roll with what production is cheap and easy.

While it's true that actual production only decreased slightly after Biden's actions, oil demand rose, and the industry that was on a path to increase their production to keep up with demand, now could not. So to make up the shortfall, we started buying oil from other countries, Russia being the first or second largest foreign supplier, depending on the day.

Had Biden left things alone, domestic production could have handled our needs. Biden forced us to buy oil from Russia. Between us and parts of Europe, we've made Putin oil rich, and a case could be made that we helped to pay for this war.

I saw some numbers yesterday that showed how we could ramp up our domestic production and almost bankrupt Putin. But that would likely take two years, and this administration will never allow it.

I think it's amazingly hypocritical that the Democrats cite their reasons for this as combating Global Warming, when all we're doing is transferring oil production to other places on the same globe. And we're sending OUR money to evil people while we're doing it.

Just read an article I can't link to because it's on a subscription site, but the author thinks Putin will end up using tactical nukes. Apparently, the Russian military is not performing as well as most expected.

If he does, this thing could escalate quickly.

Really don't think so. One of Putin's goals is the natural resource wealth of minerals. He needs the infrastructure as intact as possible. If the current crew of military, (someone estimated at 1/3 of their standing army),can't get the job done, they could send in another 100k of troops. Then again they could just lay siege to the country and wait for them to run out of ammo, then food and medicine.
Putin is crazy, maybe even insane with power, but not stupid enough to destroy the value he needs to pay for this mess.

Now that I've said that,,, watch him use tactical nukes!!!

I don't think any of us meant to portray Ukraine as a pinnacle of freedom and democracy, we all know it's corrupt. I doubt is many of us here would defend our own government of not being corrupt as well, and yes we have a history of meddling where we shouldn't.

But, and this is just my opinion, Ukraine has a right to be a sovereign nation, and that puts Putin in the wrong here. I realize it used to be part of Russia, but if my history is correct, Russia willingly gave it up. The Supreme Soviet (I believe that's the Russian Parlement?) proclaimed that Ukraine would no longer be a part of or follow Russian law. Now it seems that Russia is "Indian Giving", to use an old American phrase, meaning to take back what it gave away.

As a person who cherishes human life, I find the death and bloodshed that's happening over there to be tragic and unnecessary. And there's the issue of Russia's borders now joining other European countries, as well as the possibility of escalation. If China and possibly North Korea does form an alliance with Putin, as some claim has already happened, the potential of this escalating into a much larger conflict and even a world war could be real. And this is not the world I wanted to leave my grandchildren.

Military stocks such as Rockwell, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin tend to rise substantially during periods of unrest, invasions and wars. The rich get richer during war time, while the little guy pays out the wazoo for higher groceries, gasoline, etc.

This could go nuclear... yikes

Yep, just saw this on FOX. Had a former national security adviser on there, she said this war isn't going nearly like Putin thought it would, that he thought his troops would just roll in and easily take over.

So this is very concerning.

They also showed a clip where Trump was warning Germany against allowing themselves to become dependent on Russian energy. They did it anyway, and so did we once the fool took office. And now look where we're at. Once again, Trump was right.

Ukraine has existed as a country since 1195. The first monarch of Russia, Ivan the Terrible was crowned in 1547. Kyiv was founded was founded in 482, while Moscow was founded in 1147 - 655 years later. Ukraine's Kyiv-Mohyla Academy was established in 1615 and Lviv University in 1661. The Russian Academy of Sciences was founded in 1724, Moscow University in 1755.

As you can see, Ukraine existed long before Russia. The Most of Ukraine fell to the Russian Empire under the reign of Catherine the Great; in 1793 right-bank Ukraine was annexed by Russia in the Second Partition of Poland. Ukraine was taken by force.

Seeing claims that the two countries have agreed to talks, but have not found it on the major news outlets let.
