Are you saying Putin will be better at protecting the people and rooting out corruption?
My impression is Putin is a bad dude who has stolen billions from the Russian people.
I have never felt he was a fair leader because he wants to go back to the time when Russia was run by an oligarch and the people have no say in what their life will be, as always happens in communism/marxism/socialism the people have nothing, however government leaders live in obscene luxury.
Putin is old time KGB ruthless and smart.
You're thinking as an American who's grown up in the West Democracy and was told from the diapers that Russia is your enemy #1. Everyone was. Just as Russia was told to hate both Germany and USA.
Your concepts of who would be a good or bad ruler for any of the countries that used to be part of Soviet Union block are based on what you've experienced and the democracy you believe in. This includes your right to freedom of speech, religion, arms, you name it. And your perception of Freedom is based on all of the amendments of our Constitution. Which is NOT what it means to everyday citizens in post-Soviet countries.
Your impression is that Putin stole billions from Russian people and people that still live in Russia, that I've spoken to on this subject for the last 30 years, completely differ in their opinion. Most of them say if it wasn't for Putin, Russia would be worse than Ukraine economically. They are not out of the woods and they have their own problems, but their borders were secure, their production mostly remained in Russia, not China, religion was not only back but embraced again, and they were working on infrastructure to accommodate more population finally being able to own a car. Yes, Russia is still behind if it's such a big deal to be an owner of a car or house. However, 30 years ago you couldn't buy a car if you didn't buy a garage unit first, for which you needed to own a car first. Car owners back then were in the single digits population percentage wise.
Don't get me wrong, I am not defending or cheering Putin and his actions with Ukraine, although I can understand why he has done that. Has he been a better leader for Russia than any of the Soviet ones? Yes. Is he an old time KGB? Yes. Isn't it why the West is always so scared of him? Because he says what he means and not afraid to back his words up with actions? Or is it because everyone still thinks Russia was once and always will be a communist country and can't see past it?
Before we start calling for CIA and Killary to take Putin out, I want you to ask yourself this (and this applies to every conflict since WWII that West has inserted itself into): if somebody came into your house and started telling your family how to live, that they are oppressed by you and they needed to be saved from you because they're much better parents and head of household, would you invite them in with open arms, offer them tea and crumpets? Or would you tell them to pound sand? That what shoving the Western Democracy on half of the world looks like to all of those countries and their leaders.
Oh and the other thing, about the people not having any say and their government leaders living in luxury... Can we first turn our attention to OUR OWN government, please? And our own leftist/socialists/woke politicians that have been telling us, the US citizens how we should act and think. And our own government getting richer and richer while we, the average citizens, are not. And let's not forget Killary... Oh the stones everyone can start casting.
