Braves 2023

Now that makes perfect sense:

Dude 1: Hey dude, let’s run out onto the field and get his autograph during the middle of an inning.

Dude 2: Yeah dude, that sounds rad. We just need to find someone to hold our Bud Light.
They were stoned out of their minds.

My 2 cents for today!

The weakest part of the Braves batting is their inability to bunt. They try to hit it deep at every at bat. Often it works, but there are many times where a player could bunt the runner over and avoid a double play or simply move a runner into scoring position with less than two outs. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I like bunts. A bunt isn't as exciting as a home run or even a line drive, but every single player needs to bunt occasionally. Even if it is just to keep the defense honest. Last week, The Giants bunted home a run on a suicide squeeze play. Joc Pederson scored and looked back at the Braves bench like ha ha... For some reason, it was like I told you so.

With that being said, it looks like The Braves will soon have 5 players with over 30 home runs. Riley, Olsen & Ozuna have surpassed the 30 home run mark and Acuna is at 29 and Albies is at 28. Surely they'll make it to 30. Don't get me wrong, home runs are exciting, but wins are more important and sometimes a bunt can win a game.

The "There's no bunting in baseball" mentality has cost many teams in the playoffs. Just get the runner into scoring position whatever it takes.

During tryouts when I was coaching a travel team I looked for these qualities in batters: Did the kid attempt to hit opposite field and could the kid bunt. When choosing players the tie always went to the kid who could bunt the best.

Homers are great and are fun to watch, there are a few players on each team who are home-run hitters. Fill you other spots with those who can hit opposite field and bunt.

It is hard to criticize a team that is as good as this years team but they are not perfect. I agree I like old school small ball but that is not the game today. It may not be the right plan but a manager is not going to take the bat out of a players hands (bunt) when they are batting .290+ with 20+ HR's. The Braves strand too many runners which might bite them on the ass at some point. It has not hurt them against teams like the Rockies who are abysmal but it might against some one like say the Dodgers. Bobby Cox never manufactured a run in his tenure he relied on the long ball and a once in a century pitching staff. That may be part of the reason he only won one WS. It seems like this years team is all long ball but their averages and RBI totals reflects a pretty good hitting squad without the long ball. Their on base percentage is at the top of MLB. They do give up stupid outs with RISP sometimes. I am sorry I know he is worshiped but if Acuna, Jr. gets picked off at first with RISP or for the third out one more time I would put a short leash on him. I admire talent I do not admire lack of discipline or cockiness. JMO.

Olson 51 dingers and a class act. I liked Freddie but his leaving did not effect the team production at all. Olson and Riley conduct themselves like professional ball players with quiet dignity. I am getting a little tired of the Caribbean carnival at the far end of the dug out. They are very good players but have no class about them. Their antics are going to put a bad taste in the mouths of many die hard fans not just Braves fans. Celebrating is fine but act like you have been there before not like an eight year old. I know I am an old school hard ass it is just the way it is. Go Braves.
